Michelle Berger's career as a professional singer spanned more than a decade and led to her living in Europe for over 20 yrs. During her singing career, which continues today, she performed in both the US and Europe. While living in Switzerland, she discovered the benefits of the Pilates training method. After her fourth private session, it became clear to her that she should become a certified Pilates instructor. Next to singing, she had never felt as passionate about anything as she did, and still does, about Pilates.
Michelle completed her Pilates certification in 2007 after completing more than 700 hours of training. She received her certification from Jules Pure Pilates in Zurich Switzerland and went on to become a licensed affiliate trainer of Michael Miller Pilates. Since then she has taught more than 6000 hours as a certified Pilates instructor. While in Switzerland Michelle was an instructor for Jules Pure Pilates of Zurich, and a guest instructor at Absolut Balance in Zug.
While singing and teaching Pilates in Europe, Michelle discovered the value of the Pilates method as it pertains to singers. She became the Pilates instructor for the Zurich Opera House where she was on staff for two years until she returned to the US. In the fall of 2009 Michelle gave her first “Pilates for Singers” master class for the University of Montana vocal department.
In August 2010 Michelle opened Pure Pilates, a “Pilates only” studio now located in Billings, Montana.
Meet The Team
Mary Lou began Pilates Instructor training in 2012 after taking private sessions for over a year. She first decided to take private sessions after many years of headaches and pains after an accident she was involved in at the age of 15. She had tried an array of different therapies and treatments, some of which helped temporarily, but hadn’t found a lasting solution to her pain and discomfort. Discovering the benefits to her own physical and mental health, Mary Lou decided to become a certified instructor. Currently she teaches Mat (Levels Intro-5), Exo Chair, and Springboard classes. Additionally, Mary Lou teaches private lessons on Cadilac, Reformer, Ladder Barrel and Classic Chair apparatus. She is working towards full comprehensive certification which includes all levels on Mat and all apparatus. Some of the personal benefits achieved in her involvement with Pure Pilates have been greater movement in muscles that were frozen, corrected spinal alignment,
improved core strength, better balance and ability to focus mentally. She has a found new confidence in many aspects of her life which she attributes to stemming from all of these benefits.
Lindsay was first introduced to Pilates early in 2011 at Pure Pilates, shortly after Pure Pilates opened in Billings. She began taking classes to gain core strength and was happily surprised by the full body focus of the method. Having always been an active, athletic person she was pleased to experience the additional benefits of real mind and body connection and focus. Lindsay enjoys the progression of the Pilates levels and the variety of tools in the method that can help you build strength and stability in places that may be weak from years of neglect or maybe years of misuse. As a former gymnastics coach Lindsay instantly felt at home with the Pilates principles and movements.
In 2014, Lindsay began her teacher certification journey at a Balanced Body Certification program in Reno Nevada. She feels very lucky to now be back in Billings and have the opportunity to complete her instructor training under Michelle and with the Purely Pilates team. Currently, Lindsay teaches Mat (Levels Intro-4) and Springboard classes part time at the studio.
Lindsay offers private lessons on Cadilac, Reformer, Ladder Barrel and Classic Chair apparatus. She is working towards a full comprehensive Pilates certification on all levels of Pilates Mat and apparatus'. Having been a student at a handful of studios across the U.S. Lindsay can honestly say Pure Pilates remains her favorite, which is why she's elated to to be teaching Pilates at the studio that started her passion for it.
Toni started her fitness career in Chicago IL as a group exercise instructor. She taught low impact and step aerobics there for 7 years. In 1995 Toni moved to Billings and started teaching at the YMCA. There she taught low impact aerobics, step aerobics, power pump, and senior fitness. Through conversations with her clients about their fitness and addressing her own personal experience she realized you don’t have to beat your body up to be in shape. That’s when she found Pilates. Toni started with a Pilates mat certification in 2003 and realized Joseph Pilates’ Method went much deeper than only the mat work. In 2005, Toni started a comprehensive certification program requiring 500 hours of training, which she completed in three years. Toni is certified in Pilates mat and all of the Pilates apparatus'. She has been teaching at Pure Pilates since 2014.
When she's not teaching she likes to knit and do all kinds of hand sewing. When the weather is nice she spends time with her three sons riding motorcycles, fly fishing and camping.
Jennifer Cole is honored to be able to provide reflexology services at the beautiful Pure Pilates studio. She has always believed in the importance of human touch used to aide in healing and overall well-being. The feet hold volumes of information about the body. She enjoys giving that neglected area of the body some much needed attention. Watching clients completely relax and escape their stressful lives for an hour or so gives her great joy.
Jennifer was diagnosed with stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. After surgery and chemotherapy she would celebrate good results with a pair of new red shoes. She knows that every day is a blessing. Practicing reflexology is very rewarding and another celebration in her life.
Jennifer received her certification in Integrative Reflexology from Claire Marie Miller in Bozeman MT. She is also certified in Reiki Level 1 and 2 in the Usui System of Natural Healing from instructor Carole St. Germain.
She is looking forward to sharing all of the many therapeutic benefits of reflexology.
