How to Prepare for Your First Pilates Class
It's common to feel uncertain the you the first time you walk into any Pilates Studio for a class. At first glance the odd-looking contraptions you'll see will likely make you more nervous. It will be hard for you to imagine how your body could actually engage with those machines. But have no fear, Pilates is a client-centered practice. Those odd-looking contraptions are the Pilates machines and they each have their purpose and offer unique and wonderful benefits. Your instructor will happily explain each machine to you.
"What should I wear and what do I need to bring?"
Our studio provides all the equipment you'll need for any class. Our instructors want to be able to see your body as it moves to offer better instruction throughout the class. We encourage students to wear clothing that is not too loose or baggy but something that they find easy to move in. Pilates classes are done either bare footed or while wearing socks, preferably with grip on the bottom (ToeSox are available for sale at the Studio).
"What kind of class should I begin with?"
Pilates mat is a great place to begin. The fundamental movements and Pilates exercise principles are incorporated in the mat exercises. The mat exercises are adaptable to any fitness level, and it is nice to focus on learning the basics correctly.
Pure Pilates offers Private sessions where a client can get one-on-one training from an instructor. Private sessions are utilized by students of all levels. Our studio also offers two Intro to Mat Pilates classes weekly where both new students and experienced students come and practice the basics in Pilates movement and breath.
